COMMEMORATION OF JUBILEE AT KUAU, MAUI.

Mr. Editor, Salutations:—Please allow me an open space of our pride, so that the friends and intimates will know of the jubilee of the news sleuth of the Kuokoa.*

At my home at Kuau, Maui, on the 11th of May, 1920, my husband and I, his wife, celebrated his jubilee, that being the 50th year of his life on this round earth.

Therefore, the two of us prepared foods befitting that day. We ate until satiated of what we had, that being shrimp [opae mahikihiki], baked pig [puaa oma], young speckled chicken [moa nene opio], and desserts made skillfully by my hands, along with two jugs of juice.

We give our thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Moses Kaina for their gifting us with a speckled chicken, to complete the menu shown above.

Therefore, my husband [Oliver Knox Poniaulani] was born in the gusting winds of Waikapu, Maui, in the year 1870, from the loins of Sylvester Poniaulani and Mrs. Eliza Nuuanu Poniaulani. Therefore, the day a person is born from the loins of their parents is a great day.

We give our appreciation to the heavenly Father, for caring for his servant who was given all these years that were not dreamed of, and my husband reached his jubilee.

Therefore, to you, O Mr. Editor, goes my great delight, and with the typesetting goes my aloha.

Sincerely,

MRS. EMILY PONIAULANI.
Kuau, Paia, Maui, May 19, 1920.

*Oliver K. Poniaulani would write in regularly to the Kuokoa with news from Maui.
