May our newspaper readers of this past year see this; while we are busy fulfilling your subscriptions for the time, if you do not receive this year’s newspapers in some of your districts, do not be puzzled, but think first about not paying for the year being the reason newspapers have not been sent, however if you are prepared to pay your debts of the past and for this current year, then newspapers will be handed over with no delay as you per your wishes.
Do not imagine that this is not laborious work that you can disregard paying for, that is not the case. This is a burdensome occupation, but we have put in a majority of our labor because of our desire to make all of us into a lahui of readers of newspapers, and a nation of literacy, just as the famous words of the Precious Heavenly One, Kamehameha III, saying his was a nation of literacy.
[Today we celebrate Kauikeaouli’s birthday with a reminder of his famous proclamation, “He aupuni palapala koʻu.” And speaking of, we heard about the project “He Aupuni Palapala” that Bishop Museum has teamed up with Awaiaulu with funding from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority and assistance from Kamehameha Schools to try and redigitize the clearest Hawaiian newspapers and to get them word searchable and online with the help of Papakilo Database!]
