B. N. Kahalepuna Called By Death
Was 25 Years In Employ Of Territory
Benjamin N. Kahalepuna, 58, died Monday at his home at 2310 Pauoa road after a brief illness. He was born at Kaneohe, Oahu, September 7, 1879, and had served in the territorial government for more than 25 years.
He was appointed to the bureau of conveyances in 1898 and two years later served as a school teacher. In 1907 he was appointed to a position in the sheriff’s office under Col. Curtis P. Iaukea, and was later given the position of sergeant of police under W. P. Jarrett.
Kahalepuna also served as chief clerk in the city-county treasury office, and assistant chief clerk in circuit court. After three years of service he was transferred to the position of filing clerk, which he held for 12 years.
He was also a member of the board of inspectors of election, and at the time of his death was chairman of the board of registration for the fourth and fifth districts under appointment from Governor Joseph Poindexter.
Kahalepuna was a widower, survived by four children, Alexander Kahalepuna, Mrs. Margaret Olsen, Mrs. Julia Muller, Francis Kahalepuna, and eight grandchildren.
Body will be on view at the Nuuanu funeral parlors Friday at 6 p.m. The funeral procession leaves the parlors Saturday at 3 p.m. with services at the Catholic cathedral on Fort street at 3:15 p.m. Burial will take place at the Pauoa cemetery.
